The Rosstat (Russian Federal State Statistics Service) reported that imports of palm oil in Russia in January-November 2018 increased by 24% compared to the same period last year.Experts explain this by the need to replace margarine in confectionery products and spreads, which, according to the new rules, is considered unsafe.

“The increased import of palm oil is due to a change in the formulation of the production of margarines and fats. Since January 1, 2018, a standard has been put into effect, according to which the content of trans fats in products was limited to 2%.In the production of fats from liquid vegetable oils – sunflower, rapeseed and soybean, it is impossible to meet these requirements”, – explained the executive director of the Fat-Oil Union Mikhail Maltsev to the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper reporter.

The increase in palm oil imports can also be explained by the fact that the confectionery industry absorbs most of it in a mixture with other substitutes. Production of chocolate and confectionery, according to Rosstat, for 11 months of last year increased by 3.3% compared with the same period in 2017, and long-term storage of cakes and pastries – by 52%.Leave your application for customs clearance of palm oil to our managers by mail:
