the customs union prohibits the importation of right-hand drive cars

As from the beginning of 2015, the importation of right-hand drive cars to the territory of the Customs Union (CU) will be prohibited. The importation of these vehicles is stipulated by technical regulations ‘On the safety of wheeled vehicles’ and will cease for good as from 1st January. Besides, as from 2015, all new vehicles imported to the CU territory will have to be equipped with an emergency service call system. Specialists believe that such measures will reduce the number of car crashes and help rescuers render promptly medical aid. It should be noted that the following three states are members of the CU at present: Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.
