One of the main events of the visit was the Astrakhan-Gilyan Business Forum. The event participants were welcomed by the Governor of the Astrakhan Region Igor Babushkin and the Governor of the Gilan Province Asadollah Abbasi.
The business forum brought together heads of relevant authorities of the Astrakhan region and Gilan province, business associations, representatives of large trade, industrial, and logistics companies of Iran and Russia. At round tables, the parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in industry, agriculture, trade, and logistics.
In general, stable trade and economic ties have developed between the Astrakhan region and the Republic of Iran. The main direction of the partnership is trade and logistics within the North-South international transport corridor. This route brings goods from India, China and the United Arab Emirates to the region through Iran. Over 10 months, the cargo turnover of Astrakhan ports amounted to more than 3.5 million tons. This figure increased by 50% compared to the same period last year.
More than a hundred enterprises with Iranian capital operate in the region. There is a Trade House of Iran, founded by representatives of Gilan business. As the governor noted, the Astrakhan business community is showing great interest in expanding existing and establishing new contacts with Iranian partners. The organized Forum will give additional impetus to the development of our relations.
